Creative brief

Back2Back Productions approached Little Shadow to design a title sequence for Murder in Mind, a 10-part true crime series exploring the psychology of murderers. Rather than leaning into genre tropes, the brief called for something more abstract and introspective, inviting the viewer into the unsettling space between perception and motive.

The creative direction focused on psychological ambiguity and internal tension. Drawing from the visual language of Rorschach tests, the aim was to evoke a sense of duality and emotional distortion, mirroring the themes of fractured identity and moral ambiguity central to the series.

Our approach

We crafted a title sequence grounded in Rorschach-style ink symmetry, using morphing ink textures to build a sense of slow unease. These organic animations were designed to feel textural and uncanny, hinting at recognisable forms without ever fully revealing them.

The aesthetic extended across all 10 episodes, informing not only the titles but also the motion graphics used in timelines and transitions. A tight, desaturated palette, charcoal blacks, and greens created tonal consistency across every asset.

All animation and compositing were handled in-house using After Effects, with a mix of practical ink experiments and digital enhancements. With a locked delivery window and fast episodic turnaround, we worked closely with Back2Back’s post team to integrate the graphics seamlessly into the series schedule.

The results

Delivered title design and motion graphics for 10 episodes. The Rorschach concept became a unifying visual theme for the series, setting a distinctive tone that carried across narrative and marketing.
