We created the graphics for the 3D shots of the tombs in the Valley of the Kings by combining archaeological research with detailed digital modelling to ensure accuracy and clarity. Using site plans, historical records, and reference photography, we reconstructed the tomb layouts, corridors, and chambers, carefully matching scale, orientation, and spatial relationships. Clean, but beautiful textures and lighting were integrated to help show surfaces and the subterranean atmosphere, while keeping the visuals clear enough to guide the viewer through these complex spaces.

The final graphics were animated to smoothly reveal how the tombs were constructed, and how their internal structures connect, helping audiences understand both the craftsmanship and the geography of the ancient burial complex. While also drawing attention to specific artefacts discussed in the programme.

For the archive side of the project – used a fusion of generative AI and traditional VFX. We were tasked with illustrating Egyptian history, biographies of pharaohs and other dramatic events. With a modest budget and grand scope, we enlisted the help of AI to generate backgrounds and characters based on artist sketches and references. We then used traditional VFX pipelines where artists layered things up and added post effects. We also used AI to do deep research on how he might have looked and iterated through many options and theories until we landed on the right one.
